On the 2nd of September 2017, the Scoop6 pot had built to a very healthy £532,717.40 in a relatively short time, just six weeks since the previous win, so there were plenty of people attempting to snag it.
A total of 198,891 units were in the competition as the first race began, but with the 2nd favourite having a very disappointing run and the favourite just pipped to the post by an aptly named, My Reward, more than 85% of those bets were eliminated.
A little over half an hour later the second race was off, but once again both the favourite and second favourite were beaten by a lesser fancied runner, an 8/1 shot called Penwortham.
This result reduced the 28,452 remaining units to just 2,111.
A horse named Aljazzi took first place in race 3, and although approximately 24% of bettors still in the competition had backed the horse, this amounted to just 501 units.
The 15:15 at Chester had been chosen for race 4, and despite being the favourite, Take Cover was only the 3rd most heavily backed horse on the card. He won though, leaving just 92 units in the Scoop6 for the final two races.
The winner of race 5 was Powerallied, the second favourite, which had been backed by 15 units representing a shade over 16% of the remaining pool, and giving the Scoop6 a solid chance of being won – although 3 of the 13 runners had not been backed.
Luckily for the owner of the ticket backing Thundering Blue though, the 11/2 2nd favourite, the horse raced well and easily took the lead towards the end, bagging the successful punter over half a million pounds.
