On October 3rd 2015, one lucky punter won almost a quarter of a million pounds after their Scoop6 predictions all came in.
Absolutely nothing is known about the winner or where the bet was placed, but the racing on the day was pretty brutal to the betting pool, with only a single favourite winning their race.
The day’s events got started with the 1:45 at Newmarket, where Poet’s Prizel beat the 26 strong field to win at 7/1, knocking the majority of the pool out in the process.
There were 12,666 tickets left for race two, where a 10/1 shot called Dutch Masterpiece upset the apple cart and did huge damage to the remaining Scoop6 pool. More than 96% of the remaining bets were knocked out at this point, leaving just 687 with a chance of winning.
Things went better in race 3, where 131 punters had correctly predicted Gifted Master to cross the finish line first. In fact, this was the second most heavily backed horse in the race.
A race with 23 runners faced punters in race four though, and even though the winner, Log Out Island, was very heavily backed compared to the other horses in the race, it only accounted for 31 tickets.
Eastern Impact won race five at 9/2. It was only a small field, run at Ascot, but punters had spread most of their bets between 4 horses, and only 7 of them had chosen wisely.
Still, this meant 7 tickets remained for the final race, but with 17 horses running and only 5 of them backed, the pot could quite easily have rolled over for another week. As it turned out though, Buckstay, the favourite, lived up to expectations and won the race, banking one single punter the whole pot – a dividend of £240,859.60.
