It was Wednesday winsday for a horse racing punter who stuck a tiny 50p each way stake on an 8-fold acca and won over £100k.
The bet was placed with Betfair, and the acca was made up of all 6 races at Catterick, bookended by two at Wexford to begin and end the day.
Who the bettor was is unknown, but it looks to be someone that knows their stuff rather than a novice having a lucky day, at least judging by the selections they made:
- Broomfield Bijou – 11/8F
- Easy Peeler – 5/6F
- Chuti Manika – 11/8F
- Harmonia – 2/1F
- Swinging Eddie – 20/1
- Fuzrig – 11/4
- One Of Our Own – 9/2
- Three By Two – 18/1
Look at that. Four favourites, two second favourites (Fuzrig and One of Our Own), and two long shots.
Three By Two had shortened to 9/1 by the time the race got off, so the bettor got double the starting price on that horse, plus a bit extra on Swinging Eddie who set off at 16/1.
Broomfield Bijou set the tone for the acca win. It was the horse’s debut chase and she won it without breaking a sweat. In truth, the first 4 races were all won with relative ease, so if the punter was watching they must have thought they had some sort of magic touch. Even his first long shot, Swinging Eddie, won well once he had taken the lead.
It was only Fuzrig in the 16:40 at Catterick that gave any real cause for concern, winning the race but only by a nose.
One of Our Own held on well to secure victory and and the punter’s second long shot, Three By Two, won her race by more than a length.
“What a mesmerising three-hour spell for the small stake big-winning customer but I imagine they were watching the last leg from behind the sofa. It’s a fantastic achievement and we wish them the very best of luck.”
That £1 bet secured a total return of £103,611, a great example of how taking the early prices can pay dividends if you get your predictions right.
