On October 16th 2015, there were 3 Scoop6 punters who would have been celebrating hard after each winning a £209,519 dividend from the £628,556.20 win fund.
The prize had grown quite quickly in the 6 weeks since it had last been won, and there was a £570k bonus fund to play for too.
It was a day of favourites, with the first two races both being won by the most fancied horses. Adaay was the first and Time Test was the second, but despite them being heavily backed, only 11,342 punters made it through to race 3.
This one was the 3.25 at Newmarket, and before the off it looked like anyone’s race if you disregarded the favourite, Properus. Well, Properus had a disaster of a race not even managing to place, and the eventual winner was a horse called Captain Colby at 7/1.
This eliminated 90% of the remaining pool, with just 1,106 punters left holding betting slips that stood a chance of winning.
There were two joint favourites for race 4 which posed a conundrum for many, and more chose wrong than write. While 35% of people backed Integral, 27% backed Night of Thunder, and the latter was the eventual winner.
Race 5 provided the biggest shock of the day when a 12/1 shot named Straits Of Malacca beat the 12 strong field, with just 14 of the 316 remaining units behind it. This saw around 96% of remaining bet slips thrown in the bin.
There were 17 horses declared for the final race, although only 14 of them ran, but it was still the 2nd largest field of the day. Only 6 horses had units backing them, and it was the 2nd favourite, Spark Plug, that got the win. It was a very close call though, he only just managed to hold on to the lead.
The method of the win wasn’t important to the 3 remaining Scoop6 punters though, because they had each bagged £209,519 plus a chance to win the bonus fund a week later. At least one of them managed it too, because the fund was rest the week after. There are no further details to be found, but even if they all got it right, they will have each added another £169k to their winnings by the time the fund was split.
