Many punters feel that betting on virtual sports is more like playing roulette than actually betting. A computer generates each race and the outcome is decided by an algorithm from the outset. No amount of form studying or equestrian knowledge can you you can edge.
Well that didn’t stop a Coral online customer having a go, and thank goodness for that, because their plucky £3.75 bet won them £290,571.25 after correctly guessing four races correctly, and they only bet on longshots.
Obviously, since this bet was won on Virtual Horse Racing the horses and racetracks are fictional, but nevertheless, the winning betslip was a as follows:
- 9.31 Sprint Valley – Hairy Eyeballs – 40/1
- 9.34 Portman Park – Long Pin – 20/1
- 9.40 Steepledowns – Good Train – 22/1
- 9.46 Sprint Valley – Silver Dart – 50/1
The customer put a 25p Lucky 15 bet on the four outsiders, for a total stake of £3.75, and watched in amazement as they all came in one after another.
The combined odds of this occurring work out as 1,009,952/1 – so this was, quite literally, a one in a million winner.
Coral’s John Hill confirmed the win, saying:
“This is a Monday our digital customer will never forget! In a 15-minute spell, they have found four big price winners on virtual horse racing, scooping just over 290k for a £3.75 stake. We have seen some impressive Lucky 15 winning bets over the years, but this tops the lot! The combined odds of these four selections were just over a million to one, with Silver Dart hitting its target in the final race to complete a day in a million for our customer.”
Since the first race began at 9.31 and the last started at 9.46, the bet was made and won in about 15 minutes, so it must have been a rollercoaster of emotions for the punter watching on.
They remained anonymous so we don’t know what they plan to do with the money. Maybe they will treat themselves to a day at the real races?
