Lucky Number Seven! $7 Seven-Leg Acca Banks Punter $27,000 In Time for Christmas

American Footballer Number 7 Catching Ball

The number seven is lucky in many different cultures and religions, and it has significance for many different reasons: there’s seven continents, seven seas, seven wonders of the world, seven notes in a musical scale… and so on.

And for one punter in America, the number seven has taken on epic proportions: their $7 (£5.50), seven-leg accumulator on the NFL’s Week 16 games netted them $27,000 (£21,500).

The action in question took place on Sunday December 22… meaning that the lucky punter’s bank balance was super-charged just in time for the Christmas festivities!

Magnificent Seven

Player Team Touchdown Period
1 Brian Thomas Jr Jacksonville Jaguars 3rd Quarter
2 Ameer Abdullah Las Vegas Raiders 4th Quarter
3 Jordan Addison Minnesota Vikings 1st Quarter
4 Jaxon Smith-Njigba Seattle Seahawks 2nd Quarter

The acca in question, placed with the FanDuel sportsbook in the United States, was an anytime touchdown scorer coupon, with five games across NFL’s Super Sunday action on the radar of the plucky punter.

Brian Thomas Jr (Jaguars) & Ameer Abdullah (Raiders)

The Las Vegas Raiders took on the Jacksonville Jaguars at Sin City’s Allegiant Stadium, with the accumulator featuring two players to cross into the end zone: the Raiders’ Ameer Abdullah and the Jaguars’ Brian Thomas Jr.

It was a bullish bet, given that Abdullah had only scored a single touchdown in the entirety of the 2022 and 2023 seasons; the running back is not exactly prolific, it would be fair to say.

But our protagonist must have had faith in the 31-year-old, because he crossed over into the end zone in the fourth quarter to cap a 19-14 win for Las Vegas. Thankfully, Brian Thomas Jr – far more likely to score a TD, it has to be said – had already obliged in the third quarter.

Jordan Addison (Vikings) & Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Seahawks)

And so the wager rode to the second game on the betslip, where the punter again pushed the boat out on Seattle Seahawks’ Jaxon Smith-Njigba to score a touchdown – despite the fact that their opponents, Minnesota Vikings, boasting an excellent W12 L2 record heading into the contest.

Also on the card was Minnesota’s Jordan Addison, with both players needing to do the business to keep the acca alive.

The Vikings, one of the favourites in the NFC Conference, got off to a blistering start, with Addison notching his sixth touchdown in as many games for the high-flying side.

But Seattle rallied, scoring two touchdowns of their own in the second quarter… one of which came from Smith-Njigba to make it four from four for our plucky punter. The Vikings went on to win the game, but our acca backer probably couldn’t give a hoot either way.

Seventh Heaven

Player Team Touchdown Period
5 Jerome Ford Cleveland Browns 3rd Quarter
6 Nick Westbrook-Ikhine Tennessee Titans 4th Quarter
7 De’Von Achane Miami Dolphins 4th Quarter

Four down, three to go…

Jerome Ford (Browns)

Next up was the Cleveland Browns’ running back Jerome Ford, who was backed to trouble the scorers in his side’s trip to Cincinnati.

The Bengals were in rampant mood, making the most of their significant advantages over the Browns, whose record heading into the contest was a wretched W2 L12.

You have to give credit then to our protagonist, who backed Ford to cross into the end zone despite Cleveland having such an ordinary campaign thus far… and losing seven of their eight away games.

So much so, they only scored six points in a 6-24 drubbing… but all of them came from a Jerome Ford touchdown in the third quarter.

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine (Titans)

That’s five in the bank, with bet number six featuring Tennessee Titans wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.

The 27-year-old has been in prolific mood this term, but his Titans teammates haven’t always held up their end of the bargain – hence why they’d only won three of their fourteen games heading into Sunday’s clash with the Indianapolis Colts.

What followed was a remarkable clash in which 68 points were scored… and you can probably guess that Westbrook-Ikhine was responsible for six of them; even if our punter had to wait until the fourth quarter for the Titans man to oblige.

De’Von Achane (Dolphins)

All of which took the seven-leg acca all the way to the bitter end, with De’Von Achane the man who would separate glory from despair.

His Miami Dolphins side were well fancied to see off the San Francisco 49ers, who have been well below par this term. But Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has so many elite pass targets to choose from, it’s no guarantee that Achane will even get a look at the end zone.

And he didn’t… until just one minute and 36 seconds were left on the clock, when he received the ball in his own half of the field.

The 23-year-old set off on a mazy run that saw him slice through the 49ers’ defence to cross into the end zone… and no doubt spark scenes of wild celebration wherever our punter was following the game.

They’d just become $27,000 richer three days before Christmas… timing, as they say, is everything!
