Don’t try this at home folks!
Placing a football acca of a Saturday afternoon should be a fun pursuit using money that you can afford to lose. But you can surely up your enjoyment by betting on selections that have a chance of landing.
So when you compile a 31-fold acca that, coincidentally, weighs in at odds of 31,000/1, you can pretty much kiss whatever denomination of cash you place on it goodbye.
Apart from, of course, if you happen to land a once-in-a-lifetime win against all odds…
International Punter of Mystery
The international break can be a source of much frustration for punters, who often prefer the hustle and bustle of the Premier League, the EFL or club football from across Europe and the rest of the globe.
But for one Ladbrokes customer, the latest international break saw them scoop a serious chunk of change.
They decided to place 50p on what would turn out to be a 31-fold accumulator, which was so vast in size that the games took place from Friday to Tuesday – what a nervy five days that must have been as the selections began to land in earnest.
There simply isn’t enough space to cover all 31 of those picks, but needless to say our heroic plunder frequented all four corners of the globe when building their acca.
The action took them to Africa, as DR Congo were picked to defeat South Sudan and South Africa obliged against Lesotho.
The Ladbrokes customer also added selections from destinations as far-flung as Japan (Sanfrecce Hiroshima, Vissel Kobe and Kashiwa Reysol to win their respective matches), Canada (Forge FC to beat HFX Wanderers), Uruguay (Penarol to defeat Plaza Colonia) and the Republic of Ireland, where Bray Wanderers obliged by defeating Athlone Town 3-1.
Four of our punter’s picks were Under-21 internationals, with Italy, Sweden, Poland and Slovakia all delivering on their status as red-hot favourites – the Italians needing a 79th minute goal from Luca Koleosho, the Burnley forward currently on loan at Espanyol, to see off Montenegro.
There was action from League One, as well as some non-league picks that did the business. Huddersfield Town and Peterborough played out a five-goal thriller, with the Terriers coming out on top 3-2 – as our punter had envisaged, while Rochdale, Southend United, Carlisle United and Boreham Wood also won their respective outings.
Sole Man
Given that it was an international break, it would only be fitting that our anonymous punting hero picked out some national games for their coupon. Iceland and Israel saw off Azerbaijan and Moldova respectively, while France were indebted to a fine solo goal from Kylian Mbappe to seal a 2-0 victory over Ukraine.
And then Georgia, Poland and Switzerland did the business against Bulgaria, Finland and Slovenia. For the Poles, Aston Villa’s Matty Cash found the net alongside Robert Lewandowski, who notched his 86th international goal – seeing him go clear as the seventh most prolific goalscorer in international football history.
Lewandowski is now the 7th player with the most international goals of all time.

Meanwhile, the rest of our punter’s selections were in Scottish football; primarily the Scottish Challenge Cup. Six of these picks all won comfortably enough, but the seventh looked set to be their undoing.
Inverness Caledonian Thistle found themselves a goal down to Stirling Albion – putting the acca in jeopardy. However, Chanka Zimba found an equaliser, which left them desperately seeking a Cally Thistle winner to keep their bet alive.
All hope appeared lost as the game ebbed into the 93rd minute, but then Inverness won a corner, Liam Sole curled an inswinger into the box and, somehow, the ball evaded everyone and ended up in the back of the net.

Hallelujah! Somehow, our punter’s mammoth 31-fold acca had landed at odds of around 31,000/1, seeing them turn a 50p piece into a cool £15,599.76.
We’ve dug into the archives and can only find one acca win that can outdo this plucky effort from the Ladbrokes don. That came back in October 2024, when a customer – again doing their punting with Ladbrokes – somehow landed a 37-fold… as you do.
Their 50p effort yielded £10,339.61, with selections almost exclusively in two niche markets: Over 1.5 First Half Goals and Under 2.5 Second Half Goals.
It’s an unusual strategy, but one that paid out handsomely for the anonymous punter from Accrington.
