Punter Lands Epic 24-Fold Acca Thanks to Extraordinary 96th Minute Stevenage Goal

Don’t try this at home, folks.

There are many betting guides online that recommend placing single bets, as opposed to accas, in a bid to potentially increase your win percentage as a punter.

Of course, there’s no harm in placing the odd acca or two – as long as you’re only betting what you can afford to lose.

But a 24-fold accumulator? Maybe leave that to your fellow punters instead.

That’s not to say that these don’t land very occasionally though; the pages of this very website are testament to that. And another punter has entered the acca hall of fame after their mammoth 24-fold won on the weekend’s football.

Two Dozen Drama

The anonymous Betfair customer compiled their lengthy acca from the weekend’s Premier League and EFL fixture list.

They opted exclusively for the Over 1.5 Goals market, which in theory is a sensible choice when you consider the average rates at which the Premier League and EFL games witness two or more goals:

  • Premier League – 80%
  • Championship – 76%
  • League One – 73%
  • League Two – 74%

While a 24-fold acca can’t be described as a ‘sensible’ bet, at least the numbers are on the punters’ side when it comes to Over 1.5 Goals.

Having struck their £10 wager, our punter settled in to enjoy the weekend’s action…

Their sole Premier League selection on Saturday may just have had them squirming in their armchair. Brighton were the visitors at Fulham, where they found themselves 1-0 up after 28 minutes thanks to Yasin Ayari’s strike.

And then, well, not a great deal happened in front of goal as the game entered its final phase.

Happily, another goal would arrive courtesy of Samuel Chukwueze’s smart run and finish, before Harry Wilson notched an injury time winner for the Cottagers.

Elsewhere, tremendous entertainment was to be had at Turf Moor, where Burnley and Tottenham shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw, while Saturday evening’s game was the perfect headline act – Bournemouth seeing off Liverpool 3-2 courtesy of a late Amine Adli winner.

Squeaky Bum Time

Bristol City’s game against Sheffield Wednesday was goalless after an hour – another twitchy one for the customer, but the Robins managed to score twice in the space of 14 minutes to hold up their end of the bargain.

More late(ish) drama was needed in games played at Leicester City and Birmingham City saw the requisite second goal scored in the 71st minute in both, while the slobberknocker between QPR and Wrexham didn’t see its second goal until the second half – the Welsh side running out 3-2 winners in a grandstand finish.

Blackburn and Watford (1-1), Hull and Swansea (2-1) and Sheffield United and Ipswich (3-1) were the rest of the Championship games to oblige our punter.

Bristol City 2-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Birmingham 1-1 Stoke
QPR 2-3 Wrexham

There was at least plenty of goals around in League One, where contests between Reading and Barnsley and Doncaster and Wigan saw Over 1.5 Goals land inside the first half, while two goals in the space of four minutes after half-time saw Bolton and Leyton Orient sweep home.

Blackpool ran out 2-0 winners against Northampton, Exeter won 3-1 at Port Vale and a 1-1 stalemate meant that Rotherham and Wimbledon couldn’t be separated. Peterborough United continued their fine form with a 2-0 win over Wycombe.

But League One would provide our punter’s greatest obstacle…

Blackpool 2-0 Northampton
Port Vale 1-3 Exeter

Stevenage 1-1 Mansfield

Stevenage’s games generally don’t have many goals in them – it was 41 for and against in 25 League One games prior to the weekend, and when Saturday’s clash with Mansfield was goalless after 77 minutes, our punter looked to be out of luck.

Mansfield were awarded – and scored – a 78th minute penalty, before Stevenage pressed for a late equaliser… to no avail.

Until, that is, the ball fell to substitute Chem Campbell, who justified his introduction with a 97th minute equaliser… sending Stevenage’s fans into a sea of limbs.

No doubt our punter joined them, no matter where they were at the time…

Super Sunday

With 19 selections in the bag, it’s doubtful our punter slept well on Saturday night – were they tempted to cash out?

Onwards they marched, with the South Coast derby between Portsmouth and Southampton ending 1-1.

A late strike from Taiwo Awoniyi secured Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 win at Brentford, while goals were the order of the day in Chelsea’s trip across the capital to take on Crystal Palace – the Blues running out 3-1 victors.

All of which left one game between our punter and their haul: Arsenal’s clash with Manchester United.

One of the most talked about games of the Premier League campaign so far ended 3-2 in United’s favour, with Over 1.5 Goals scoring after 37 minutes when Bryan Mbeumo equalised the own goal of Lisandro Martinez.
