NFL Punter Lands £27k In Time for Christmas from Fantastic Four-Fold

Its less than a year since the extent of the popularity of NFL betting in the UK was first revealed.

Entain, who operate Ladbrokes, Coral and other brands, revealed that they had taken 60% more bets on the 2024/25 season than the campaign prior.

Not only that, but bets placed on ‘player props’ – things like touchdowns, passing yards, rushing yards etc – had increased by 90%.

If you’ve ever been tempted to bet on American football but haven’t taken the plunge, maybe this incredible wager from a punter in the United States will whet your appetite.

They staked £75 on four players to score two or more touchdowns in the weekend’s games at combined odds of 374/1.

Well, you can probably guess what happened next: the quartet of players obliged and the punter trousered a cool £27,662 for their troubles!

Here’s the tale of the tape of that fantastic four-fold.

Sunday Funday

The wager, placed on Sunday morning, consisted of four players to land two touchdowns or more in their respective games:

  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Seattle Seahawks)
  • Jahmyr Gibbs (Detroit Lions)
  • Derrick Henry (Baltimore Ravens)
  • Quinshon Judkins (Cleveland Browns)

The Ravens were hosting the New York Jets at the M&T Stadium, with Baltimore running back Derrick Henry eyeing the opportunity to add to his haul of touchdowns for the season.

King Henry, as he is often referred, is one of the best RBs in the NFL, and a consistent touchdown scorer – landing at least ten in each of his last seven regular season campaigns.

Baltimore were a comfortable favourite against the Jets, so things were expected to go smoothly… until they weren’t.

New York led 7-3 at half-time against a surprisingly lacklustre Ravens, so expectation for a Henry touchdown brace became more of a hopeful punt.

Despite an off day for star quarterback Lamar Jackson, Henry took matters into his own hands in the third quarter, rushing for a TD from just two yards.

And then, just five minutes later, Baltimore took up a strong field position and Henry once again blasted his way through the middle to cross into the end zone.

The Ravens went on to win 23-10, in below-par fashion, but Henry’s pair of touchdowns got our punter up and running.

The main attraction of Cleveland Browns’ clash with the Las Vegas Raiders was a debut for hyped quarterback Shedeur Sanders, but it was the early blitz of the Browns’ running corps that stole the headlines.

The game was barely seven minutes old when Quinshon Judkins made the most of a strong field position to rush for an eight-yard touchdown.

And then, as the first quarter was coming to an end, Judkins took the ball left and edged over the line for his second touchdown of the game inside 15 minutes.

That Winning Feeling

Two down, two to go.

There was a sense that Seattle Seahawks’ date with the Tennessee Titans would be a high scoring encounter; which came to pass in a barnburner at the Nissan Stadium.

Seattle led 16-3 at the half-time break, but the Titans stuck around and ultimately ended up one score short at 24-30.

The Seahawks only scored three touchdowns, but two of them – thankfully for our punter – went the way of Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

The 23-year-old has been a key pass target for Sam Darnold this term, leading the entire NFL in receiving yards gained.

And he managed to turn two of those passes into touchdowns on Sunday; the first, a 63-yard catch at full tilt, a particular highlight of Seattle’s win.

All of which left the spotlight on Jahmyr Gibbs, who made our punter sweat a little uncomfortably.

His Detroit Lions side made life hard for themselves against the New York Giants, with 0-10 and 17-20 deficits after the first and second quarters respectively.

Four touchdowns were scored in that chaotic opening half, with Gibbs notching one of them after taking a short pass from Jared Goff.

And then, well, nothing. The third quarter was scoreless… was this game, and the punter’s wager, about to fizzle out?

Fortunately not. In fact, the two teams traded touchdowns, with Gibbs showing his versatility to rush home from 49 yards.

The game went to overtime and it was Gibbs, ironically, who landed the winning score with his tenth TD of the campaign for the Lions.

But, by this point, our punter was already off celebrating their handsome £27,662 payout… presumably their Christmas will be one of their best yet!
